Types of transponders

There are many kinds of transponders. Ask us about the right configuration for your RFID application.

Transponders (chips) come in different frequency ranges for different kinds of applications.

Low-frequency transponders communicate in the 30-300 kHz range (125 kHz is the most common frequency) and are most commonly used for access control and time recording.

High-frequency transponders communicate in the 3-30 MHz range, with 13.56 MHz settling out as standard. Typical applications are public transportation and access control.

Ultrahigh frequency is the 300 MHz - 3 GHz range, used for logistics and roadway systems.

Besides the different frequency ranges, transponders also come in passive and active versions. Passive transponders have no own power source, and rely entirely on the electromagnetic field of the reader device. Active transponders have an energy source such as a battery, giving them a higher range.
