All RFID solutions involve a data medium and reader. The data medium always consists of a combination of chip and antenna, whether in the form of a label, paper ticket, keychain, or plastic card.
The reader sets up an electromagnetic field. The data medium uses the energy of this field to send the information on the chip to the reader.
The range over which this transfer can take place depends on the kind of chip used and the configuration of the read/write device. Maximum range can be up to 12 meters.
RFID solutions are compatible with all standard interfaces, so they can be integrated in any existing software.
